Blood pressure regulation and body weight
1. What is the best kind of exercise to reduce centripetal fat quickly?
Aerobic exercise. Something such as light jogging, treadmill work, heavier cycling, and exercises in that range. Something you can basically do four or five times a week for 35 or 40 minutes.
2. How should I change my diet? Should I eat less fat, less carbohydrate, less protein, or less of all three?
In order to lose weight the most important thing is to reduce your fat intake, particularly saturated fat. There’s less evidence that reducing other components of the diet will make a difference and in fact, some of the thinnest people in this country have very full diets and eat plenty of calories because they exercise.
3. Is there anything I can eat that will actually help to reduce blood pressure?
Your blood pressure can be improved through your diet. The first thing must be to get your weight down, and that means consuming calories in proportion to exercise in order to get the fat off. You need to make sure you’re getting enough electrolytes suchas calcium, potassium and magnesium, and those are provided by food sources such as low-fat dairy products, potatoes and fruits. For some people — but only a small number — lowering salt intake may be helpful.
4. What if I’m too old and weak to exercise?
You can always do light weight-bearing or contraction exercises just sitting there.
